I loved my time at Furman! I really enjoyed all my classes. Furman is very challenging but prepares you for the future.

Campus and vibes

Current Student

Furman's study away programs are a big part of what drew me to the school! I appreciate how the tuition is the same for an away program as it would be for on campus. I spent a semester abroad in London with an internship! It was on that program that I met my best friend.

Current Student

There are so many clubs and inner mural club sports teams that students are able and encouraged to join. Furman Does have greek life but no Greek houses and greek life events are limited, but overall not too bad of a greek life program. Furman also hosts many free events , I would say at least one a week, where students can relax and do crafts, eat free food, and connect with fellow Furman students.

The people are really what make Furman. Most people I've talked to find the campus to be uniquely supportive and uncompetitive, and yet, a large majority of students are highly driven people who turned down places like UChicago, Brown, etc. I have friends at Vanderbilt and other schools who feel their student bodies are not as connected and warm as Furman's.

Current Student

I feel that Furman exceeds in the following categories: academics, campus life/scenery, professors, and student life. There are so many incredible things to do on campus and in class each day. I love feeling engaged and partaking in activities that I know are rewarding and helping my community in some capacity.

About Furman University

Furman is known for its safe campus environment, with students consistently reporting feeling secure. The university has security protocols and orientations addressing safety measures, contributing to a positive student experience. The campus is monitored, and students feel comfortable walking alone at night.

Furman does not have a separate Honors College but offers a Community of Scholars through its prestigious scholarships like the James B. Duke and Joseph A. Vaughn Scholarships. These scholars receive exclusive academic and leadership opportunities, faculty mentorship, and research funding through the Furman Advantage. The Riley Institute's Advantage Scholars program also provides a unique summer experience before freshman year.

Furman welcomes international students, with 4% of the student body coming from abroad. The university provides support for international students, though specific details on visa support and ESL programs are not explicitly mentioned in the provided documents. The campus community is generally balanced in political views, fostering an inclusive environment.
