Your professors will expect A LOT from you. However, they are more than willing to take the extra time to help you; many will even give you their cell phone number. Take advantage of this!

Illinois college is definitely NOT for me! Maybe because I was a freshman during Covid but it was very toxic to me! I left after that! There are a few pros though. Pros: I made some life long friends, some really great professors and staff and activities. Biggest pro is the CSI! Cons: they do NOT in any way care about their students mental health. Although they claim they do. Very toxic! Lots of drama. People act like in high school. Not diverse at all(coming from a While girl)! Some professors in the education department are very very toxic! So bad that I cried multiple times and left because of them!!! Such a small campus and small classes. Came from a high school of 1000 grad class and I hated it! Was so uncomfortable in classes! My advisory was trash! He did not help me at all! Yes I know it’s college but so much hw every night that no time to relax and not be stressed! I am sorry IC, because I had very high expectations and it was very toxic.DON’T RECOMMEND AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!

Student

I committed to Illinois College because it was close to home and had a good atmosphere and dorms when I toured. Now that I have been here for 1 full semester, I love it I have made great friend, joined new organizations and worked super hard on my academics and I could not have done it without my professors. With the small classes the professors really get to know you on a personal level and even when you are done with a professors class they always wave or say hello! Everyone is so nice and I am so glad I picked IC

Student

I had an absolutely incredible time at Illinois College during my first year as an international student from Ethiopia. From the moment I arrived, I was met with a warm welcome from the faculty and students. One of my favorite parts about attending Illinois College was the opportunities provided for students to get involved and grow as individuals. There were so many clubs and organizations to join, and I was able to find my niche and make friends with similar interests. The professors are knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects, and they truly care about the success of their students. I felt challenged in my classes, but I also felt like I had the resources and support to succeed. Illinois College is for anyone looking for a welcoming and supportive environment to pursue their academic goals. I am so grateful for the experiences and memories that I made during my first year, and I can't wait to see what the future holds.

Student

Being at Illinois College is a unique experience. The campus is small enough to get to know well but not too small. The people here are nice and welcoming. The professors care about their students and are willing to help when needed. It does get a little boring with it being a small town and all but friends make up for that. If nursing is of interest then this school would be a great choice because their nursing program is so great. There is a bunch of great clubs and sports to join. I myself being part of the club Nuestra Casa (a Hispanic/latino club) but you do not have to be Hispanic or latino to join. Nuestra Casa is a very fun club and it’s a way of making good friends. They put on events and festivals now and then, which are also a good way to decompress from school work. Overall a good time and experience.

Student

Joining both the cross country and track teams there was also one of the best decisions I could have ever made. I found lifetime friends participating in those sports, and it allowed me to find an avenue that never let me feel that I was alone. Education wise, the professors and instructors there are there to work with you, not make college seem impossible and stress you out. They are always a stop in their office or an email away, no matter what your situation may be.

Student

Join clubs on campus. Not only is it a great way to make new friends, but with so many options, their really is something for everyone whether it be intramural sports, choir, a religious life group or something else entirely.

Student

To best prepare for college all you have to do is have to ability to manage your time. Your are able to have fun and do all the things you want all long as you factor in some time to finish all of your academic obligations.

Cost and value

Student

You're welcome to visit classes on campus during the school year, and to chat with current students about their experiences at IC. Also, I recommend applying as early as possible, because IC offers a lot of merit-based scholarships, and the earlier you apply the better!
