Campus and vibes

Junior

Northeastern Illinois University has always been my dream University since a child. I’ve even visited the university on a college tour during grammar school & took the steps to be able to secure a spot there as a student. In fact, I graduated from Harold Washington college last year & immediately applied to Northeastern, due to Harold Washington being a 2 year college.... I wanted to go for my Bachelors in order to work in the Criminal justice field as a Probation officer, so I figured why not enroll at Northeastern & continue my education. Now that this will be my second semester at Northeastern I’m proud of my decision, due to me feeling at peace on campus & the fact that they notify us about upcoming scholarships, grants & loan options to be able to pay for our college expenses. I love the school so much that I would encourage any student coming out of high school to apply to Northeastern.

NEIU definitely has a diverse student body. A lot of colleges/Universities boast about their diversity but NEIU actually delivers on their diversity aspect. Now professors are VERY hit or miss. Some are really good and organized while others barely know how to teach and make you question how they got there.... The campus is very lack luster. There are nice green spaces but it’s very commuter oriented, so money isn’t going to be too invested into their “infrastructure”. Students are very quiet and don’t participate as much as you’d think. Some classes are definitely easier at this university compared to my other friends are different ones.

My experience at Northeastern has been okay. There aren't many clubs or activities to join. There isn't a lot of security measures for the dorms. I've gained a lot of knowledge from my teachers, and most are pretty lenient. I like the spaces they offer to study in the student union. There isn't a lot of help financially other than trying to find scholarships or take out a loan yourself. If you want to get a good experience from college, I will say try another university.
