Student reviews

Professors

Sophomore

I transferred to SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) from my local community college. I chose it because it is the only SUNY that offers a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture. I also liked how the college had a strong focus on ecology and the environment.

Junior

Overall, ESF is a great experience for anybody entering environmental fields. Most professors are great and genuinely want to see you succeed in both their course and life after school, but be sure to look up professors on Rate My Professor when registering though.

Campus and vibes

Freshman

SUNY College of environmental science and forestry is a welcoming community of fellow students, transfer students, alumni, and faculty that all share the same passion and values to study and help the environment.

Sophomore

The professors at ESF have been great, I have been learning a lot in different classes. I like that it is a smaller school that is right next to a larger school, Syracuse University (SU), so you get both the benefits of a larger and smaller school as you can join any SU club or participate in Greek life if you want.

Junior

Being able to access SU facilities and games was great as a huge Cuse fan, and the new gym is fantastic (a bit crowded, just plan accordingly). My advisor was great and a huge help to me along the way with coordinating classes around my career goals, but I do have friends that did not have the same experience.

Student

You have access to all of SU's dining halls, which is very nice. However, some are nicer than others. The one closest to ESF campus and Centennial Hall, Sadler Hall, isn't the best, so you'll have to walk a tiny bit farther than it may first seem if that's a major issue. And Sadler's food still isn't all that bad, in my opinion.

Student

SU's dining is very vegetarian and vegan friendly, and though I'm not either, I find that sometimes the vegetarian and vegan food is better than the regular food! You also get a certain amount of money on your ID based on your meal plan that can be used for food outside the dining halls.

Student

ESF currently doesn't have their own dining halls so ESF students eat at Syracuse's dining halls. One meal plan swipe is all you can eat, so one never goes hungry. If anything, they have leftover meal swipes at the end of the week which unfortunately don't roll-over.

Student

You can have a meal plan with Syracuse University and/or get one with the Trailhead Cafe. The Cafe has a lot of delicious options and the SU dining halls are good if you need something quick.

Cost and value

Student

The food is generally good, and there is a large selection of vegan and vegetarian options as well. The only complaint about the dining is that the mean plan through Syracuse is so expensive, especially compared to the amount ESF students pay for tuition!
