The University Police Department works hard to ensure the campus is a safe place to live, learn, work, and play. Emergency telephones are located throughout the campus, and the police department maintains excellent relations with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. The department offers many services to ensure safety and security, including security escorts and general preventive patrol.

The University Honors & Undergraduate Research Program (UHURP) offers intensive, advanced critical thinking and undergraduate research opportunities to TAMIU’s most academically talented students. UHURP offers the chance to complete accelerated coursework to Honors students in every undergraduate major, as well as the opportunity to apply for various Honors-linked scholarship opportunities. Program benefits include priority registration, unique scholarship opportunities, and networking with faculty.

TAMIU offers a diverse and international student body, which contributes to a rich cultural environment.
