Professors

Senior

- The research environment is toxic. Many of the professors demand a lot out of you, but are unwilling to act as a mentor. With the exception of one professor, I did not receive any support while applying to graduate school. I had to seek outside mentorship opportunities and had a much better experience doing research elsewhere (UCLA, Weill Cornell). There is no accountability for professors that act inappropriately.... - The social scene here is awful. Vassar is incredibly cliquey and it was difficult to make friends, as people mainly stuck to the friends they made freshman year.

Student

More understanding assignment turn-in lateness policies (especially on grounds of expressive perfectionism as opposed to performative negligence, perhaps a negotiated arrangement to attend meetings with professors explicating progress and roadblocks i.e. inconsequential academic support)

Student

Vassar has provided me with an exceptional network of academic giants in their field, perhaps the best professor-student relationships I could ask for. The student body is just small enough so that it doesn't feel insular, and the general social dynamic is that the school itself is clichey, which is actually a benefit as a first-year.

Alum

I enjoyed the liberal arts education I received at Vassar College. I was able to take a variety of courses regarding gender, economics, history, and religion alongside my STEM education. The opportunity to have an open curriculum allowed me to explore all avenues of life. I also enjoyed the various opportunities to engage in my community via the Office of Community Engagement Learning, including volunteering at the local hospital and elderly care center.

Campus and vibes

Freshman

Vassar is an extremely inclusive and diverse liberal arts college. Through my short time here I have already made multiple deep connections to others around me, and everyone overall is always in a positive mood which spreads to the surrounding student population.

About Vassar College

Vassar College prioritizes safety and security on campus, with features like blue light emergency phones and student-run campus security at night. Students generally feel safe walking around campus, even at night. The college also has liberal policies to ensure student safety in social situations, such as a good Samaritan policy.

Vassar offers numerous opportunities for academic enrichment, including research projects and intensive summer research programs like the Undergraduate Research Summer Institute (URSI) and the Ford Scholars Program. Intensives are designed to promote forward-thinking, non-traditional class experiences that catalyze deeper learning. Students can engage in research and make contributions to their field as early as their first year.

Vassar College welcomes international students, who make up 8-10% of the student body. The college offers need-based college-administered scholarship and grant aid to international students.
