Washburn is a quaint and pretty quiet school. with most of the students are from the local area. It does have a well rounded offering of courses with a fair student to instructor ratio of about 1/17

About Washburn University

The Washburn University Police Department (WUPD) is responsible for all aspects of public safety for the University community, providing safety and security services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The WUPD monitors all intrusion and fire alarms in buildings on campus and utilizes a network of over 150 CCTV cameras, both inside and outside buildings. Any criminal act, or suspected criminal activity should be reported immediately to WUPD by calling 670-1153.

The University Honors Program at Washburn provides students with the opportunity to personalize and deepen their educational experience through engaging courses, independent projects, connections with faculty, extracurricular activities, and study abroad programs. Honors students can live in the Honors Learning Community in the residence halls, taking a shared course and enjoying exclusive social activities. Honors freshmen get first enrollment choice in classes.

Washburn University supports international education through study abroad programs in over 20 countries, an International Students Office offering resources for students coming from abroad, and language and culture programs. The university provides visa support and cultural orientation for international students. Five percent of the undergraduate student body is international.
