Hampshire College offers a progressive and accepting social environment, with a diverse student body passionate about social justice. While the campus can feel like a bubble, students find meaningful connections through shared interests and the broader Five College community. The social scene includes unique clubs and events, though some note the presence of hookup culture and a lack of traditional party scenes.

While Hampshire is not for everyone by any means, it offers students the chance to really shape their own education. Hampshire students can take an unlimited number of Five College courses and work with amazing faculty. I've felt very glad that I'm at Hampshire and not one of the other Five Colleges, because I don't need to worry about major requirements and have the chance to take graduate seminars and multiple languages off campus.

Campus and vibes

Student

Hampshire College is a great place, accepting of just about everyone. They have a lot of social justice programs, students tend to be activists but so long as you're not actively racist or anti-LGBTQ you're good. The school's lack of grading is pretty great.

Student

Do not attend Hampshire College! It is not what it was, even 10 years ago. If you wouldn't be considered far-left by the average person, you'll be ostracized, at best. No reinvestment into campus infrastructure apart from flashy admissions building, jail-grade dining hall food, reduced options for classes/fewer professors, a campus store with egregious prices; this is all a direct result of the college's financial issues, which are ongoing & severe.

Cost and value

Other

Hampshire College isn't worth your time! you are better off going somewhere else to attend school. For the second semester (mind you I had a scholarship) I couldn't apply for classes unless I paid $4,000. They don't value their students education and when asked for help with an assignment they pushed you aways until you are very far behind and then they'll email you telling you how far behind you are. The scholarships they give you are false and they won't their word. Don't go to Hampshire College, it isn't worth it if you value you're education.

About Hampshire College

Hampshire College prioritizes safety with its Campus Safety and Wellbeing Dispatch Office, operating 24/7. The college also utilizes an Emergency Notification System, RAVE Alerts, to keep students informed about critical updates via text messages and emails. While the campus is generally considered safe, some reviews highlight concerns about the administration's handling of student conflicts.

Hampshire College does not have a traditional honors program, but it offers advanced academic experiences for high-achieving students through its unique curriculum. Students can engage in project-based learning, independent research, and close collaboration with faculty. The college's emphasis on interdisciplinary studies and self-designed programs allows students to create individualized pathways for academic excellence.

Information on specific international student support at Hampshire College is limited, but the college's commitment to diversity and inclusion suggests a welcoming environment. International students benefit from the Five College Consortium, which provides access to resources and communities at neighboring institutions. Students should contact the college directly for specific details on visa support and cultural resources.
