The military aspect is central to life at NMMI, with strict discipline, daily formations, and leadership training integrated into the student experience. Cadets learn valuable skills such as time management, organization, and leadership, preparing those interested in military careers or ROTC programs effectively. However, this environment can be intense and is best suited for students committed to the military lifestyle.

Current Student

Students report a complex and sometimes frustrating experience with campus administration and faculty, noting issues with communication, favoritism—especially towards athletes—and inconsistent enforcement of rules. Some cadets feel that power dynamics among students and staff can impact their experience negatively. However, many also acknowledge dedicated teachers and helpful staff who support student growth.

The campus facilities include an athletic center with a good weight room, a large library, and a working infirmary open 24/7. Computer labs are located in many buildings but are primarily reserved for classes, and while Wi-Fi is available in dorms, network speed and reliability can be issues. Printing is free and included in tuition, which helps students with their coursework.

Student

I will give them some stars for the smooth admissions process how ever I won't stand for the social injustice of this place Title VI specifically states says don't deny education based on race, color, national origin, or sex. This is unacceptable for an institution who values honor duty and academic achievement.

Student

New Mexico Military Institute has help me become the confident person I am today. This school offered many leadership opportunities, and gives many females the opportunity to be in a high ranking role. This school has many sports, and extracurriculars that give everyone something to do. The teachers are all highly skilled in the area of which they teach, so I am guaranteed a hardworking education. The only change I wish to see is a more disciplined area due to it being a military school.
