The admission team wants to see how you were involved outside of academics. Community service is important to Virginia Tech their moot is Ut Prosim that I may serve. Gpa isn't the only thing they consider a big part of admission is the difficulty level of your classes. They do like to see higher ACT and SAT scores though.

College Sophomore

The Interior Design program has some of the most strict guidelines for acceptance. Since it is so highly ranked, they receive a lot of applicant. High SATS, high gpa, and community involvement is required. It is an extremely tough program to get into.

College Junior

Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences PhD. I felt that it was not as difficult to apply to/interview for this program as it was for another graduate program at the University of Wisconsin. The most important thing to look for when attending graduate school is funding: I found my research assistantship through a job listserv of a professional organization.
