Sophomore

While this school has some redeeming qualities, overall I would not recommend it. Unless your goal is to have 0 personal life and only devote yourself to your studies, you will not enjoy your time here. The dorms are great, but everything else kind of sucks. Your mental health will deteriorate, without a doubt. It feels like there isn't any staff to turn to, and if you need help in a subject, there isn't really a way to get it. I understand that attendance is important; however, it is basically make or break in all courses. This means that students have to decide if they want to decrease their grade or sacrifice their mental or physical health. There is not much emphasis or focus on the students' mental health, even though the school makes it seem like there is. Great advertising, but I wouldn't recommend. I'm looking for schools to transfer to right now.

My experience at the University of Minnesota Rochester has been amazing. The small class sizes allow for close connections with professors and classmates. I’ve had unique opportunities to shadow physicians and volunteer at Mayo Clinic, which helped solidify my interest in healthcare. The health sciences-focused curriculum is rigorous but rewarding, and being in downtown Rochester means I’m surrounded by medical innovation. I’m also involved in student organizations like the Black Student Union, where I’ve built friendships and leadership skills. UMR has truly prepared me academically and professionally while giving me a strong sense of community and purpose.

Student

University of Minnesota Rochester is connected with the Mayo Clinic, so most clinical hours are done there. It’s a nice easy walk to campus. The area is safe. One downside is that there aren’t any sporting activities or events.

Student

The opportunities with Mayo Clinic are great but there isn't a good balance with school and life. There seems to be a big competitiveness between students since many of them are pre-med.
